WHERE SCULPTURES ARE MADE

Back again with a little episode of last weekend’s family outing to a nearby SCUPLTURE PARK in the town of Steinmaur, ZH, Switzerland. What does it look like when a former stone pit is turned into an art space ? – See yourself 🧐

Four large sculptures along the road announce the proximity of the sculpture park. A quick turn onto the dirt road and a short drive up into the forest leads to the parking space, where the tour of this open-air museum starts. The park itself must boast a good 100 sculptures, here some impressions I collected :

  • Flotsam

Actually, this is not only an exhibition out in the nature, the really cool thing about it is that it is like a tiny artisan village ! The artists have their studios and workshops there. During the weekdays one can apparently see the artists at their trade, but since a Sunday only visitors were present that day. Physically intense the work must be, but it looks cozy to work there 🤗 :

Some of the workshops are really neat and I imagine out in the green, surrounded by nature the creative juices must flow freely without worldly distractions, the spirit and soul fly ever so high in reception of imagination and sudden inspirations. In tune with nature, wouldn’t this animate you for artwork, too ? – This creative space also promotes for exchange of ideas between the artists, I like to think.

There are all sorts of sculptures, some massive boulders, others heavy metal, but also smaller, more detailed ones. The art objects are made out of different materials ranging from wood to steal and cooper over to plaster, Styrofoam and stone. QR codes next to the exhibited items give information about the art piece and its making sculptor.

The venue invites for a leisurely stroll and it was a pleasant Sunday outing to give me again some inspiration. I enjoyed this slowed down and laidback atmosphere in the forest, with this open gallery set against the natural backdrop. One could easily loose oneself in this small artistic world :

If you happen to be close by, check it out if you are art interested. It makes for a little escape in a hot summer 😎 More about the Steinmaur sculpture park via this URL here :
